A word about
fabrics...
Our
futon covers come in all colors, styles and patterns and are made
up of a variety of materials.
Here
is some basic information about the main fabrics used.
The
Naturals
Cotton
Soft and comfortable. Other fibers are often blended with cotton
to make for easier care and more durability. The higher the cotton
content, the greater the comfort; the higher the synthetic content,
the better the ware.
Linen
Stronger than cotton but not as soft. Somewhat stiff with a lustrous
finish, giving it an elegant appearance. Unless blended, linen creases
and wrinkles easily -- sometimes a preferred look. Somewhat expensive
and difficult to maintain.
The
Synthetics
Acetate
Accepts brilliant dyes. Is lustrous and relatively low cost. Drawbacks
include a low resistance to both abrasion and sunlight. Typically
blended with stronger fibers.
Acrylic
Resembles wool more than any other synthetic. It can be dyed with
vivid colors, is easy to clean and retains its shape. More resistant
to sunlight damage. Works particularly well when blended with plush
and velvet fabrics.
Nylon
Generally more durable than other synthetics, nylon is less resistant
to sunlight damage and soil.
Polyester
Most resembles cotton in look and feel of all the synthetics. Resists
wrinkling and stretching. Less durable than Nylon, yet still has
plenty of body and resistance to wear. Offers strong color and luster
retention.
Olefin
Resists moisture and mildew, weather damage and staining. Very durable
and easily cleaned. Because color s added before the material is
turned into fiber, olefin is colorfast.
Rayon
Good luster and sheen but relatively weak. Often blended with other
material to increase durability and comfort.
